Focus on photovoltaic + energy storage and promote the 30:30:30 green vision
In recent years, Nigeria has been accelerating its transition to renewable energy through a series of policy measures, focusing on photovoltaic + energy storage, hoping to meet the growing demand for electricity and deal with energy security issues, alleviate residents' electricity crisis, and reduce electricity bills. These provide a broad market space for the application of energy storage technology.
The Nigerian government launched the energy transformation plan in August 2022 and passed a new Electricity Bill in June 2023, which promoted the decentralization of power supply and opened a window for local governments and private enterprises to increase investment. The government plans to have installed electricity capacity reach 250GW by 2050, 90% of which will be renewable energy.
According to a report titled “Nigeria’s Renewable Energy Roadmap” prepared by the Nigerian Energy Commission and the International Renewable Energy Agency, utility-scale solar systems in Nigeria could reach 100% by 2030 and 2050 respectively, based on current and planned policies. Available in 5GW and 25GW.
Nigeria’s “green vision” is called 30:30:30, which is to deploy 30GW of electricity by 2030, 30% of which should come from renewable energy.
