Czech solar market: promising prospects with challenges

The Czech Republic, as a country in the heart of Europe, has abundant solar energy resources. In recent years, with the growing global demand for renewable energy, the Czech Republic has made significant developments in the field of solar power generation. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), as of the end of 2020, the Czech Republic's installed solar power capacity was approximately 2.5 gigawatts (GW), accounting for approximately 6% of the country's total installed electricity capacity. Although this figure is not high globally, it is leading in Europe.

However, the development of the Czech solar market also faces some challenges. One of the main challenges is the shortage of land resources. Due to the small land area of ​​the Czech Republic, the land resources available for building solar power plants are relatively limited. In addition, the social problems that may arise during the land acquisition process are also factors that cannot be ignored. In order to solve this problem, the Czech government has begun to explore the possibility of developing solar energy projects in various scenarios such as urban building rooftops and agricultural land.

According to predictions, by 2025, the Czech Republic will build new photovoltaic installations on at least 100,000 rooftops and promote the establishment of new energy supply models. At the same time, the Czech government has also committed to becoming completely independent from Russian energy imports by the end of 2024 and increasing the share of renewable energy in total final consumption to 22% in 2030 as part of its contribution to the EU-wide 32% target. This will provide more development opportunities and space for the Czech solar power market.
